Preschool: Cherry Patch

                                                                                                                                                             August 2009

Dear Families,

Welcome to the Cherry Patch! I am very excited to have the opportunity of teaching the Young 5’s class here at Pee Wee Patch this upcoming school year. Last year was my first year teaching this program and I had an absolutely wonderful experience, made a lot of memories, laughed, played, and learned a lot with the group of children in my class. As I begin my second year of teaching the program, I’m very excited that I will be able to work with the children for a full day this year, from 9:00 a.m -3:00 p.m.

Your child has a lot of fun things to look forward to as a student in the Young 5’s program.  I’m a huge believer that children learn best when they are up and moving, being physically involved in their educational experiences.  Because of this, a lot of the activities planned are very hands on and exciting for the children.  We will be focusing on Language Arts, Math, Science, Writing, Sensory, and Social Skills. In addition, we will also have Music class throughout the week.

I wanted to take this opportunity to offer you some information that will be helpful during the school year:

  • Every child will need to bring to school each day a back pack that should contain a complete change of clothes.  I guarantee that along the way we will be doing messy activities and we find ourselves needing that extra change of clothes, not to mention that we still want to be prepared just in case of the occasional “accident”.

  • Please bring a journal for your child with their name on it. You can purchase journals at any teacher supply store, or it can be as simple as a spiral notebook.  Along with the Journal, please bring a simple pencil box including pencils and colored pencils for the box.  These will help to create their portable writing stations to be used during rest time.

  • Young 5’s is a traditional program which means that we will follow the Lake Orion School year calendar.  This means that when Lake Orion Schools are closed for holidays, snow days, in-service, etc. Young Fives will not have class, however Pee Wee Patch will still be open.

There are sure to be questions that come up through out the year, please feel free to call anytime or email me at cherrypatch@peeweepatch.com. I want to be sure that we develop a great line of communication so that we can work together to make the school year the best that it can be for your child.

Looking forward to a great year,

Mr. Dave
