Literacy:

 

v      Prior to activity, provide pictures of autumn trees for children to look at.  Discuss how leaves fall from the branches to the ground as they change color and die.  Demonstrate to the children how to fingerprint leaves using Autumn Colors provided.  Encourage the children to try fingerprinting leaves on the branches, falling from the tree and on the ground around the tree.

A time for falling leaves

A time for pumpkins.

A time for harvesting.

 A time for hibernating.

 A time for scarecrows.

Handprint Bulleting Board

          Students use handprints to create leaves on bulleting board. (In hallway)  Students choose colors to use for leaves in hallway. 

Leaf Rubbings---

                Students will take a nature walk into the woods, looking for different types of leaves. 

                                Students will observe:  Colors, Shapes, location, surroundings of leaves.

                                Students will use crayons to reproduces a leaf on paper, gently rubbing the crayon over the paper, which is lying on the leaf.

Fall Leaf Making---Cut paper into shapes of leaves.  Using a water dropper and (Thinned) paint, drop paint onto leaf.  Leaf will make a fall colored leaf.

Using a coffee filter, students use dyes (red, green, yellow) to create a leaf person.  As a (Large) group, students practice reading the poem pointing out words we have been using this week.
